Punchcard Player is Napolitan
Productions second feature length movie. It was shot
in the summer of 2001 with some photography still remaining.
Following the completion of Napolitan Productions first
feature length movie, 1 2 3, producer-editor Steven
Napolitan and writer-director Michael Picarella immediately
began preparation on a second movie.
Punchcard Player would be shot on 16mm film and
the two filmmakers sought out to find investors for this project.
As with 1 2 3, Napolitan, Picarella and actor
Brian Napolitan got together at Dennys Diner often to
discuss their next project.
They talked about things they all wanted to see in a movie
and eventually found a story they all could relate to. Working
many jobs at the same time was a familiar lifestyle for all
three filmmakers.
Picarella wrote the script and Napolitan searched for investors.
In June of 2001, Punchcard Player went into production.
Napolitan and Picarella shot the movie again on location in
Tracy, California. The project was much more ambitious than
1 2 3.
Money for the movie had been coming in as the filmmakers
were shooting. After the September 11 terrorist attacks, several
investors for the film backed out.

Napolitan and Picarella
tried to finish the movie, but spent what money they
had on shooting. This left many post-production costs
unaccounted for.
The film wrapped in October of 2001. Napolitan and Picarella
edited a rough cut of the film within the next year.
Following the completion of that edit, Napolitan secured
a couple more investors to move Punchcard Player
closer to a final product.
As more investors sign
on to the project, Napolitan will initiate a pick-up
shoot to capture a few remaining scenes.
